AVRDC-The World Vegetable Center conserves the most
diverse collection of vegetable germplasm in the world. Its collection
contains more than 55,000 accessions of about 300 different species
from at least 140 countries.
The Center actively exchanges
genetic resources and expertise among national programs, regional
organizations, and the private sector. Since its founding, the Center
has distributed more than 500,000 seed samples to researchers
in at least 180 countries. This has led to the release of hundreds of
varieties throughout the world, but with particular impact in developing
countries.
Collecting, characterizing, evaluating,
and conserving this germplasm is done in cooperation
with national partners. Plant genetic resources management skills
in the region are enhanced through training at headquarters.
The AVRDC
Vegetable Genetic Resources Information System (AVGRIS) is
an information system that manages the data of all vegetable
germplasm conserved at AVRDC's Genetic Resources and Seed Unit
(GRSU). It is designed to manage the GRSU operations more efficiently.
It links all operations associated with germplasm conservation
and management from registration, characterization, evaluation,
seed inventory and seed distribution to end-users. This web version
of AVGRIS has been developed by GRSU staff. It provides the user
direct access to germplasm data through the internet.
AVRDC is also a part of The System-wide
Information Network for Genetic Resources (SINGER). This
is an information exchange network of the Future Harvest Centres
of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
(CGIAR). The AVRDC germplasm collection data (passport) has been
integrated into the SINGER database.
Indigenous Vegetables of Southeast Asia
is the official website of AVRDC projects on indigenous vegetables
in Southeast Asia.

germplasm)
2. A shipping address to where
you want the germplasm to be sent
3. A Plant Import Permit mailed
with your request (if your
country requires one)
Send your request to:
Genetic Resources and Seed Unit
AVRDC - the World Vegetable Center
P.O. Box 42, Shanhua, Tainan 74199
Taiwan, or e-mail GRSU enquiries directly.
With your germplasm, AVRDC will include a Material Transfer Agreement,
